Magic Party For Children

Why Have A Magic Party For Children?

As I write this, Britain’s Got Talent is starting its thirteenth series and magic is going to play a very big part again. A lot of those magicians appearing on the telly were inspired by watching magic at their birthday party. It is possible that they were invited up and took part in a magic trick. And when they did that trick – actually performed magic themselves – they got the ‘Magic Bug’. Look at this young man’s face. Imagine how good he felt. Only a Magic Party can give your child that feeling of amazement – They Did Magic!

What’s The Best Age For A Children’s Magic Party?

Here’s a guide for my birthday parties…

3rd Birthday Party: While I do perform short magic shows for pre-schools, I don’t do 3-year-old’s birthday parties. At this age, the birthday child and their little friends are too young to get what I do. They might like my bright appearance and funny actions, but my stories won’t hold their attention and they will become restless. It would be much better to wait until they are four years old.

4th Birthday Party: 4-year-olds can really enjoy one of my Magic Birthday Parties. The birthday child and their friends have gained some experience of being with other children and story telling at their pre-school or nursery. And even though it might be the first ever birthday party they have attended, my subtle approach of getting them all involved brings them out of their shell. My non-elimination games are easy to understand and are fun. And my magic shows are tailored specifically to their age group. The tricks I use and my performance is designed to get them involved and therefore keep their attention.

5th and 6th Birthday Party: 5-year-olds and 6-year olds are a really good age for my Children’s Magic Parties. They have had experience of attending birthday parties, they are used to some structure at school and they are developing their own characters. This means that when they arrive, they are ‘up for it’. One thing to remember is, because they are at school daily, they have also experienced the sort of everyday humdrum routine that school brings. They’ve been in the real world. So a birthday party is a time to let off steam and a chance to have some control. In my magic show, they are the ones who are doing the magic. They are the clever ones, much cleverer than me! Also, at this age, they may not have established a group of close friends (especially 5-year-olds who have just started school), they tend to be friends with the whole class. This means they would like the whole class at their party, which is fine for me, as there is no limit to the number of children you invite.

7th Birthday Party: This is still a good age for one of my Magic Parties. Like the five and six-year-olds, they know how to party. But 7-year-olds can have a cheeky edge to them. They like a joke and like to joke, so my style is ideal. They’re not treated like little babies. My magic show is again tailored to this specific age group, it contains tricks that will make them laugh and amaze them in equal measure. At my parties, they have the opportunity to escape the humdrum of daily life and have a great time.

8th Birthday Party and older: Once your child starts Junior School, you might think they are too old for the traditional children’s birthday party. It is fair to say that, by this age, they have established their own ideas about what they do and don’t like. But if they would like a Magic Party, I have the experience to provide you with a great party. To do this, I recommend your child has some input. With my Disco, Magic & Games package, they can choose to have some of their favourite songs included on the party playlist. To give you an idea of how I deal with this age group, my magic show contains tricks I usually perform for grown-ups and by the end of the party, I’m considered to be ‘cool’.

So that’s my guide to the best age for a Children’s Magic Party, I hope you’ve found it useful.

If your child is four and above, I can provide you with a less stress party which your birthday child will thoroughly enjoy. You can find more information about the packages I offer here, or get a quote.

Corporate Entertainer

My Business To Your Business

Because the bulk of my work is for Children’s Birthday Parties, it’s easy to overlook the fact that I can also entertain at Corporate Events. Here’s a summary of the type of entertainment I can provide and how it can benefit Businesses.

Retail Business – Stores and Shopping Centres

At the moment, these are tough times on the high street – Bricks and Mortar Shops are in fierce competition with online retailers. As a result, high street stores and town shopping centres need to give their customers more of an experience when visiting their businesses. They need to create the feeling that going shopping is a day out, an event that all of the family can enjoy. The services I offer can help with that experience.

I can provide short magic shows, at set times, throughout the day. These would last up to 30 minutes long and there would be a variety of shows, so your customers wouldn’t see repeats. These not only provide entertainment for your customers, they are an opportunity to bring a group of your customers to the same location, at the same time. This means you can use this opportunity to pass on information and news about your latest promotions.

I can also provide balloon modelling. Balloon models are a great draw. They can bring parents into your store and will draw people to the place they are being made. If you have a particular product on promotion, balloon models will draw your customers to its location. If you are handing out flyers, these can be distributed with the balloon models, backing up your company brand. Also, as the public like a gift, free balloon models are well received and promote a feeling of goodwill.

Both of these forms of entertainment will help generate an increase in footfall to your business. And, with the addition of social media promotion, they will add to your brand awareness.

I have experience of providing these packages at shopping malls, town centres, retail stores, showrooms and supermarkets in Hampshire, West Sussex, Surrey, Wiltshire and Dorset. If you would like more information about how I can help your retail business, send me a message.

The Service Industry – Transport, Construction and Utilities

There are occasions where these industries meet the public. This could be the launch of a new transport service, the opening of a new building site show house or a new upgrade to utility services. I can help make these more family friendly.

Magic Shows can help, but I would recommend balloon modelling as my best-suited service to add to your event. As mentioned, the public like a free gift, with flyers and other marketing material being handed out at the time. This helps cement your company brand with the parents, which gives a positive attitude towards your business.

I have experience of Bus Launches, Show House Openings and Utility Company Events in Hampshire, West Sussex, Surrey, Wiltshire and Dorset. If you would like more information about how I can help you, send me a message.

Your staff and their families

Whatever your business (international, national or local) the satisfaction of your workforce is important. A happy team is a successful team. If you put on events for their families, they will be happier. It may be a Summer Family BBQ, a Family Fun Day, a Celebration of a Profitable Year, or a Christmas Party. I can provide services for all of these. If you would like more information about how I can help, send me a message.

Please Choose Carefully

More Advice To Ensure You Get The Right Children’s Entertainer

In October 2015, I wrote about How To Find The Best Children’s Entertainer for your event. This latest blog is a sort of reminder or a Part Two.

I’ve titled it ‘Please Choose Carefully’ because I appreciate that you could be spending a lot of money. And if you ‘get stung’ by a disreputable entertainer, it could put you off all entertainers. Hopefully this short piece will stop that happening.

So first of all…

Are They Established?

Avoid Fly By Night Entertainers

If you were to ask Children’s Entertainers how they started, you might get some interesting replies. Some are the same as me, they did it for their children and then developed from there. Others have had a lifelong interest in Magic or Performance and this has become their path. But there are some who have started because they see it as a way to earn money.

When there are tough economic times, or when major employers make redundancies, some people look for a quick way to make money. To an outsider, a Children’s Entertainer’s job is easy and it is just what they are looking for. They buy a bright T-Shirt, some chef trousers, a couple of Magic Tricks and they call themselves an Entertainer. Now, of course, everyone has to start somewhere but these people build a nice glossy website and advertise that they can do your Child’s Birthday Party, but don’t have any experience or practice. They only gain the experience at your expense. In effect, you are paying for them to practise and sometimes with horrendous results.

Then there are the dabblers, the ones who are trying everything in an effort to get your money. One day it might be Character Parties, next it’s Discos, then a Bouncy Castle or two, then Catering, anything as long it attracts your attention. These types generally are changing their Business Name over and over. As one grand idea fails, they start something else up. Or, as soon as one business gets a bad reputation, they change the name to disguise the fact.

So when you are searching, look for some information about How They Started or How Long They Have Been Going For. An interesting thing to do is to Google their address and see if any different Business Names are listed.

You might be surprised!

What Do They Look Like?

Stay Away From Cartoon Entertainers

One of these pictures in an accurate representation of what I look like. Can you guess which one it is?

I mentioned this in the other blog, but it seems more and more entertainers are doing it so I’ll go on about it again.

When choosing the Children’s Entertainer or Magician for your Party, make sure that you see a recent photograph of them, maybe one that’s a couple of years old. If there are no photographs, or if there are only cartoons – Be Worried! The problem with the cartoons is that they generally do not look anything like the Entertainer. They are actually what the entertainer would like to think he or she looks like.

My (slightly controversial) view is that they only have the cartoons done, because they know that a recent photograph would put people off!

By the way, this photograph was taken in May of this year.

Finally…

Will You Get Who You Booked?

Don't be fobbed off

If you have searched and found the perfect Entertainer for your Party – That is Who You Should Have!

I’m sorry to say that there are some Entertainers who will take one booking and then drop it for a higher paid one. So instead of getting the chosen Magician, a substitute turns up. Sometimes, the first the booker knows about it is when the stranger walks in. In my business, this is something that all good Entertainers frown upon, but it doesn’t stop it happening.

So always get some form of confirmation that you are going to get the person you have booked. Every reputable Entertainer, or Magician will provide you with a document of confirmation. This might be an e-mail or paper contract. If you don’t get this, Be Worried.

So there you go, my second rant about Choosing The Right Entertainer For You is over. I truly do hope you get the right person, because, like I mentioned, one bad Entertainer ruins it for all the good ones.

Of course, while you are here on my website, I would like to mention that I’ve been established since 1998, only use photographs and always issue confirmation paperwork. So you might like to enquire 🙂

End of Season Celebrations

It’s The Party Season Finale

LEICESTER-large_trans++qVzuuqpFlyLIwiB6NTmJwfSVWeZ_vEN7c6bHu2jJnT8

The Football Season is coming to an end (And who’d have thought that Leicester would be Premier League Champions!)

The Cricket Season has just started (It snowed in the first week)

In Horse Racing, The Jump Season ended on April 23rd and the new Season started on April 24th.

But did you know that there is a Birthday Party Season?

It’s basically the same as the School Year, starting in September and finishing in August.

This means that if your child was born in September, their party will be the Curtain Raiser for the season. They will be the eldest in their class and all of their friends younger (some of them could be nearly a year younger).

And so it goes that if your child was born in August, theirs will be the Season Finale, with all of their classmates being older.

I use this ‘Season’ as a way of helping me plan for your Children’s Birthday Party. For instance if your son or daughter is 5 years old and their birthday is in October, most of the guests will be 4 year olds. But if their birthday is in June, most of the guests will already be 5.  So when I prepare my Magic Show for your party, I take this into account and use material that is going to work best for their age.

It’s just something I like to do to make your Child’s Birthday Party the best they’ve had!
